Game Recap
How the quarter played out
Q4 closed the season on the part of the revenue cycle no dashboard can fix by itself: the people running it. Chris Holden of First Priority Mobile Healthcare and Octavious Bishop, Ph.D. joined Asbel Montes and Corey Chapman to talk about what it actually takes to lead an A/R and collections team when the plan changes mid quarter.
The conversation kept circling back to the same idea from four different angles. Culture and relationships come first, structure and cross-training keep the operation from depending on any one person, cadence and communication build the trust that lets leaders hand off ownership, and a clear vision only works when someone keeps verifying that the organization is still aligned to it.
Game Notes
A few things worth taking with you
- 01
Know your people before you need to coach them.
Octavious Bishop emphasized that leadership is relational. Different people respond to different kinds of coaching, and strong leaders know their team well enough to understand when to push, when to encourage, and how to have the hard conversations.
- 02
Build depth, not dependency.
Chris Holden talked about intentional structure: clear roles, cross-training, the right technology, outside support when it makes sense, and a next man up mentality. If one person being out stops the operation, the team is leaning on individuals instead of a system.
- 03
Stay close enough to know when to step in.
Corey Chapman's point was that trust does not mean disappearing. Regular check-ins, feedback, and open communication help leaders know when someone is ready for autonomy and when they still need support, especially with newer team members.
- 04
Set the vision, then verify the execution.
Asbel Montes tied the conversation back to the leader's responsibility to make the mission clear, create accountability, and maintain transparency. Trust your team, but build enough visibility into the process to know whether the plan is actually working.
- 05
Watch a handful of numbers, not all of them.
Chris keeps a short list of A/R and collections KPIs that works as an early warning system, reviewed on a regular cadence so a trend gets caught while there is still time to respond to it.
